  The AARG Buddy System

The Buddy System is a method of assisting newcomers to the Amateur Radio Community by providing initial one to one support by means of help from a more experienced Operator and aiding the Group to assess future training needs.

Methodology

A list of all Foundation Licence holders should be kept up to date by the Committee and regularly monitored on a bi-monthly basis to assess the progress of each individual using the ‘Buddy System’.

Following the completion of a Foundation Radio Licence Course and gaining a pass certificate a successful candidate’s name should be added to the AARG ‘Buddy System’ list.

A suitable AARG mentor (Buddy) should be selected and approached by the Committee to oversee the early difficulties of securing the Candidate’s Licence and the basic equipment required to enable them to operate efficiently & within the limits of their Licence.

If this match is agreeable to both parties the issues outlined in the following Progree Sheet should be addressed in due course  allowing the AARG Committee to assess the progress of the new Licensee and the likelihood of when to run the next Intermediate Course, including any external candidates.

he AARG assessment form should be so designed to allow all parties, from the MM3 and their ‘AARG Buddy’ to the Intermediate Course Organiser, to realistically assess the progress of the new Licensee and to inform the general membership of the same.
